DBSA Albuquerque is a peer-led support organization with regular, ongoing Depression and Bipolar “Support Groups.”
DBSA support groups offer information, symptoms management, shared experiences, and encouragement for those who contend with mood disorders and those interested in learning more about depression and bipolar disorder.
DBSA Albuquerque meets every Thursday with doors open at 6:30 pm and groups from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm.
Along with our regular weekly depression and bipolar groups, DBSA Albuquerque also offers special support groups on the first, second and third Thursday of every month.
The first Thursday of the month is “Family & Friends Night” where you are welcome to bring those in your life who would benefit from what DBSA has to offer.
The second Thursday of the month is our “Feeling Better Group.” If you’re feeling good and would like to speak to others also feeling good, this is a group you might consider.
The third Thursday of the month we offer a “Women’s Group” dedicated to the female members of our chapter. This gives an opportunity for women to discuss aspects of depression and bipolar special or unique to women.
In addition to the Thursday groups, we have the Specialized Group that meets each Wednesday.
The group is for people who suffer from depression or bipolar disorder, or related disorders (anxiety, OCD) and who have had or might have difficulty attending our regular groups because of inability to understand or participate using the eight guidelines for group conduct.
The particular guideline some have had trouble with, so far, is “one person speaks at a time and the rest listen actively”. Though we will be safe and keep order in the group, there will be room to learn to use the guidelines, and plenty of acceptance while doing so.
Possible attendees might be people with Autism, Asperger’s Syndrome, Developmental Delay, or Schizophrenia. We are open to other possibilities.
We will have two facilitators in this group each week and we meet each Wednesday at Trinity United Methodist Church (enter at the Southwest door) at 6:45 – 7:00 pm. Group is over at 8:30. This is a new group, and we will give it time to see if there is interest and if it is beneficial to the participants.
